Slash The Chance Of Identity Theft With Shredding

Shredding personal documents is considered a very important part of home and personal security. In a world where identity theft has become a reality, disposing of sensitive information with bank details or national insurance details or addresses and dates of birth is essential self protection.
The repercussions of identity theft can leave a bank account drained, credit cards filled and your name black listed for years to come. How to protect yourself
The way to protect yourself from identity theft is to establish a routine that ensures all your personal information is safe. Invest in a home paper shredder to destroy any printed documents before they go in the bin. Exercise caution if you live in shared accommodation. You may not know who you are […]

Home Security ? Protect Your Properties with Property Marking

Tip! (a) True. Installing a home security system is a great way to save as much as 10% from your insurance company, and many offer even greater discounts when your home security system is monitored by a professional monitoring company.

Ultra violet technology is used in security products to protect property. With the use of an ultra violet pen, property is marked with a specific sign, number or code. That mark is called an ultra violet mark, however, the mark will not be visible in normal light, but will glow when an ultra violet light is shed on it from an ultra violet lamp. The mark does not damage property in any way. This technology is used to mark property at home, school, office, on boats, and recreational vehicles. In case of a theft, once the goods are recovered you can confidently claim them.

Tip! True or False: Most insurance companies offer discounts to homeowners who have a home security alarm.

Any personal property can be marked with ultra violet pens. It is ideal for marking and identifying: PCs, Servers, Kitchen Appliances, Mobile Phones, Lap-Top Computers, Home and Office Equipment, Audio Systems, TV and Accessories, Vehicles and their parts, Cycles and Motorcycles, General Household Valuables, Gardening Equipment, Leisure and Sports Equipment.

Ultra violet lamps are available in both portable and stationary models. Ultra violet lamps can detect fake currency, mechanical and chemical erasures.

Ultra violet pens are used to mark property with an ultraviolet mark. Ultra violet pens can be used on surfaces like wood, plastic, metal, glass, cloth, and paper to write and mark. It is advisable to mark property every two years as the ultra violet marks may fade with exposure to sun light or by washing. In addition, ultra violet marks should be put in places where it has the least human contact or contact with other things. This again prevents faster fading. The best way to mark properties with an ultra violet pen is to write the driving license number or first two initials of the name or other special code that you would like to use.

Tip! True or False: If there is any metal construction in a home, a wireless home security system won't work.

The best use of ultra violet marking is when certain item that is marked with ultra violet pen goes in for repairs, if switching of the item occurs it can be easily detected. Recovery of goods after theft becomes possible and the job of police officers becomes easier in identifying your goods.

Ultra violet lamps can be found that use either batteries or electricity. You can find ultra violet lamps and pen sold together in one kit or separately according to your preferences. There are some ultra violet pens that promise life long marking, but eventually the markings will begin to fade. It is advisable to mark property periodically to ensure that the mark is visible and clearly legible when exposed to ultra violet light.

Home Security At Holiday Time

Tip! Make an initial survey of your house and from there, develop a home security plan.

Before departing for your well earned holiday be wise and review your home security. The latest figures from the FBI show a burglary occurs every 15.4 seconds in the USA. The majority of these break ins take place when the householder is away from the home. A great number of these burglaries could be prevented by beefing up your home security and installing a home security system.

The installation of a home security alarm, and home security surveillance cameras is one of the most common and effective ways to improve the security of your home instantly.

Many of these home security products also have the option of home security monitoring. But the installation of these devices does not guarantee you immunity, other steps and precautions need to taken to improve you overall security.

Some of the less expensive options available include installing motion sensor lighting around the perimeter of your home.

As well as the external security there is a great deal that can be done inside the home to improve security. Check all locks on doors and windows replace any defective locks. Patio sliding doors offer the opportunist thief just what they are looking for easy access, the reason is usually poor maintenance or security (broken lock) don't get caught out this way thinking it will never happen, it does and it will.

Tip! (c) 25% of American homes have a home security system; only one quarter of American homes are protected by a home security system, despite a recent survey showing the majority of homeowners believe that having a home security system is effective in deterring burglaries.

Take these steps to make your sliding door even more secure consider installing a blocking device such as a "Charlie bar" or some other type of track blocker to prevent the door from sliding open. At the very least you should block the track with a steel rod or wooden dowel to prevent any movement.

Where possible use a home safe to store any valuables include such items as keys to outbuildings, garages, other vehicles and any other device that requires a key. You should also hide any personal documents and identity information in your home safe as well. If you don't have a home safe consider using a post office vault especially if you live in a high crime area.

Tip! ) Do a home security checkup. Put on your black hat and walk through your home, inside and out, with the eye of criminal.

Giving the impression someone is at home is a great way to dissuade a burglar and is key to improving home security. This can be achieved by using timers in various rooms to switch lights an appliances on and off at differing times of the day. Be smart though and apply this tactic to more than one room in your house.

Other security measures include stopping your mail and paper deliveries. If you have two vehicles leave one parked on your driveway or ask a neighbor to park in your driveway whilst you are away. Leave a key with a trusted neighbor or relative and ask them to check your home periodically. Switch off any answering machine don't be tempted to leave a message saying you are on vacation.

Ensure all outbuildings are secure, making sure any tools in your garage that could be used to gain access are under lock and key. No matter what steps and security measures you take your home will never be 100% secure. But the harder you make it for a burglar to gain entry the stronger your home security will be.

Tip! Including other monitoring systems along with your home security system can be very valuable for peace of mind too. Often companies can hook in a fire alarm system to the main alarm too, and if the fire alarm is triggered the appropriate fire station will be notified.
